Phillips To Bring Knowledge on Healthy Living To Novant Health Diabetes Community Support Day

Maxine Phillips, LIVE Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association, will be the keynote speaker for Novant Health’s “Living Well With Diabetes: Community Support Day.” Thousands have heard her story on how she was able to reverse her type 2 diabetes, and it has sparked the interest of medical practitioners across the state.

I consider it a privilege to share with Novant Health professionals and the community on how I changed my health status,” said Phillips. “Helping others understand that making one lifestyle change at a time helped me and I know it can help them as well.

The event will be held on Saturday April 14th from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Novant Health Conference Center on the campus of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center (333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, North Carolina 27103). Seminar topics include diabetes survival skills and self-care, diabetes and pregnancy, caregiver support and, one of the most important, proper foot care for people with diabetes.

Phillips’ biggest proponent of managing diabetes has been journaling her experience. She advocates journaling, recognizing it as a problem-solving tool and very therapeutic, which could be an asset for people who are struggling with the day-to-day battles of managing diabetes. As the author of “Transformation: Write, Share, LIVE!”, a journal in which she uses inspiring prompts to propel individuals to write each day, Phillips has appeared on Tarheel Talk and WRAL to share her story on living well with diabetes, and she also serves as a Type 2 accountability coach that resulted in reducing or eliminating the need for diabetes medications.

Maxine does more than talk the talk; she walks the walk! Currently, she serves as the captain for Team Phillips who participated in the American Diabetes Association Family and Friends division of the annual Step Out And Walk To Stop Diabetes for the past seven years. Team Phillips began as a way to honor Maxine’s late husband Greg who died in 2010 from complications associated with diabetes. Team Phillips has received several top fundraiser family/friends team awards and was awarded the Sanofi Give award in 2012 from the American Diabetes Association for her leadership, dedication, and commitment. She is also the team lead for the Raleigh Diabetes Group in Raleigh, North Carolina.

When I say, ‘I have diabetes, but diabetes does not have me! it is because I decided to take control of my diabetes and made healthy lifestyle choices and it has been worth it!” expressed Phillips. “I want those living with diabetes to take the pledge to make one lifestyle change at a time.

Not only is Phillips a speaker and author but she is also a job search strategist, life and career coach, consultant, and a holistic health advocate.
